About me

I'm Sophie

A qualified Primary and Montessori teacher with a passion for inclusive, holistic education. I truly believe that for a child to thrive they have to feel comfortable, regulated and safe.

I understand that progress and success looks different for every child. A warm, nurturing approach allows me to build positive relationships with learners, better understand their strengths and challenges, and tailor sessions to their needs. By following the child’s lead, I aim to foster confidence, encourage curiosity and help them to thrive at their own pace.

Following the Child

I believe meaningful progress is made when attuning to each learner. Noticing subtle cues and responding with care allow trust to develop naturally.

My sessions are not rushed, they are structured thoughtfully, with room for movement, conversation and regulation. If we need to spend longer on something, that is absolutely fine. What matters is that the learning feels enjoyable and safe.

Attuned Teaching will gradually grow to include online lessons for families seeking gentle learning support at home.

What "Attuned" means

Learning begins with feeling safe

Children learn best when they feel understood. Attuned Teaching is built on responsiveness and building trust.

Sessions are built around the individual child, rather than focusing on rigid academic targets. For children who feel overwhelmed, anxious or misunderstood in school settings, this approach creates space to breathe.

Pace

Sessions follow the child's pace. Without having to rush, children can learn in a way that best suits them and gently build confidence.

Regulation

I believe children cannot learn without being regulated. We take regular breaks to help keep learning enjoyable and learn regulation techniques, if needed.

Interests

Where possible, I incorporate the child's interests into the learning process. Right now Pokémon and Jellycats are very popular!

Connection

I always take time to connect with my learners before we begin the session. It helps to build a positive atmosphere, and I usually learn something new too!
